I have often flown over Lake Tyrrell, Victoria, Australia, in a light aircraft but was unable to take photos. However, over the last 6-12 months I have been lucky enough to return to the Lake and capture a series of photographs by drone. I love the idea of abstraction in pictures like these - when viewing them you are at first unsure of what the subjects are and whether or not they are paintings or photographs. It is more typical when photographing salt lakes to dwell on the often very strong colours but my preference is a more subtle approach, with suggestions of many other colours and shades in the dried salt of the lake bed. In many cases, the eye can be deceived into thinking the image is a relatively traditional landscape view, when in reality it is often captured close to or actually vertically downwards. I almost always use a square format, rather than the more traditional landscape or portrait formats, as I feel it draws the eye towards the focal point(s) more effectively. The square shape also enables the image to stand out from other formats. Like me, I hope you will find these prints intriguing, even fascinating, with new details emerging with each viewing. All images are sold unframed, Giclée printed on 310gsm 100% cotton rag acid free paper and should normally remain fade free for at least 50 years and typically much longer.
