I visualise an inner landscape, triggered by external references. The majority of my paintings are inspired by the external, natural landscape. This painting has its origin in the rock strata on the headlands around the coast of NSW where I live. The strata, revealed through constant erosion by wind and sea, is a glimpse through time and place if you will, rather than a snapshot of a surface. Contemporary environmental imaging has transcended traditional photography, and that in turn influences my image making. My influences include; Cubism; Indigenous art and perspectives; Infra-red imaging; LiDar,The Hubble Space Telescope; aerial photography and maps, alongside modernist painting.
