About The Artwork

"The Alchemy of Winter" was inspired by my daily walks through the winter landscape where I live in Ontario. Rocks become softly snow covered sculptures, frozen waters reflect shimmering sunlight, the stark outline of trees appear as etched into the skyline. My medium is Beeswax Encaustic which allows me to build up wonderful textures, deep luminosity and layering. For my images I have transferred photo images from my photos - for me this creates a dynamic between the reality of painted image and the photo image. A dynamic which constantly shifts as the daylight changes into evening. At night this painting glows. Although it's beauty is best appreciated in reality, I hope you enjoy studying it's image. Beeswax encaustic is extremely archival and durable, the colours and the surface will not deteriorate under normal conditions (as with any artwork). The encaustic medium and paints I use are from R & F Handmade Paints (rfpaints.com) - and are of the highest quality. Hanging hardware is included as are instructions for care.

I graduated from Concordia University, Montreal with a BFA and post graduate Art Education Diploma. After experiencing Northern Canada while teaching, I continued my education and graduated from Trent University, Peterborough ON, completing an MA in Anthropology specializing in Art History and Indigenous Cultures. My medium is beeswax encaustic which I also teach in private studio workshops and through classes at the Haliburton School of the Arts. I am a recognized instructor with R & F Paints, Kingston, New York. My painting style interweaves photo images, mixed media, plaster forms to create a visual and tactile feast for the senses. The medium allows beautifully luminous layers of rich colours and textures like no other medium I've used. It is also extremely archival and permanent. I have enjoyed numerous solo shows in the Peterborough area including a solo show at the Art Gallery of Peterborough. I also have shown in the US and across Canada. My work was juried into a prestigious show at the Sagamihara Citizen Gallery. I am represented by The Art Gallery on the Lake, Buckhorn, ON; The Elaine Fleck Gallery, Toronto ON, The Ethel Curry Gallery, Haliburton, ON; Meta4 Gallery, Port Perry, ON; Soho Myriad Gallery, Atlanta, Ga.
