Portrait is the image of the soul. I am a portraitist, what interests me is to capture the intensity of being, what emerges from this person. The photographs of the Indians are charged with a powerful emotion, to photograph an Indian means that it is already captured. It is made historical because it is part of history; It is the story of a people who fought for their freedom. In spite of this apparent defeat, there emerges a nobility from it which I try to transcribe pictorially. What pleases me in these portraits is the fact that they testify that one can be free in adversity. Gall. Born in South Dakota around 1840, Gall is a warlord of the Lakotas Hunkpapas tribe. A true warrior, he played a prominent role in the Battle of Little Big Horn alongside Crazy Horse and Sitting Bull. Finally, Gall no longer agrees with the beliefs of Sitting Bull, he decided to return to the United States with his people in 1880 in order to surrender, he converted to Christianity and became a judge of Indian affairs. Gall died at his home in the Standing Rock
