About The Artwork

Épater la bourgeoisie Inspiration from: Au Lecteur, Poem of Charles Baudelaire, To (the) Reader. From Fleurs du Mal. With additions. If you've never exposed a hypocrite, their humbug, then you haven't had a really good laugh. Those who've had sense-of-humour by-pass surgery will not get Charlie's joke. One of the funniest poems ever written. "He is Ennui! His eye filled with an unwanted tear, He dreams of scaffolds whilst smoking his hookah. You know him, reader, this exquisite monster". Nature, including Human Nature, is Ugly for Baudelaire. Anti-Romantic aesthetic Realism. Nature is indifferent too. A belly-laugh rebuke of a poem about a monster of Common Human Nature. Name of the monster then and now. Hypocrisy. Noticed any in 2020? Spot on Charlie. Classic. Lots of laughs. Rich, thick oil-paint in layered impasto. Heavyweight 380 gm canvas used for support. Épater la bourgeoisie

Lowborn, not a Virtue-Signaller, lacking Luxury Beliefs or their status, but neither an inverted snob, nor a snob. Definitely not intersected. Orphaned, outcast, male, straight, white, capitalist (a tiny fish in a very big pond), quite conservative in fiscal and social matters. In long term and friendly relationship. Prankster, yet pragmatic, singular, evolved, authentic, ironic, sardonic, sceptical. Comparatively deprived early life. Which has had permanent effect. Not least in being grateful, for what I've got. And for true opportunities both recognisable and takeable. These themes within some of these works. Never faked a sarcasm too. Personally loyal to those who have tried to, or have, helped. What else is a man of honour to do? Really enjoy painting, sometimes. In silence, without media lies etc., noticed sound of own breathing as I paint. Expressive, rather than regular! Still learning after all these years. Thank you for your interest.
