In 1984 I enjoyed a visit to Edinburgh for the festival fringe and tattoo. During that visit I viewed the iconic “Ross Fountain”, which is located in West Princes Street gardens. The fountain has been recently renovated and now boasts a brand new verdigris-bronze colour palette, knowingly chosen to echo other French-built fountains of the same era. The fountain is now painted in turquoise, brown and gold, and according to the organisers, the colours should last for at least 20 years. This painting suggests an artistic view of Edinburgh Castle, as seen by the female finial figure of the fountain , who has been christened as ”Elsie” by the renovators.
